Best Luxury Resorts in Upstate New York
1. The Lake House on Canandaigua ★

The Lake House on Canandaigua is an idyllic lakefront hotel perfect for a charming Upstate New York getaway in the Western Finger Lakes! The property features stunningly pleasant rooms with modern amenities, some of which have balconies. Guests can enjoy local cuisine at the on-site restaurant (Rose Tavern), refreshing drinks at their bar (Sand Bar), the ultimate relaxation at the Willowbrook Spa (with sauna!), a stunning pool by the lake, and downtime at their library. They also have a cute gift shop by the reception.
Depending on the season, outdoor lovers can spend time boating, biking, hiking, and skiing. Located between Rochester and the heart of the Finger Lakes, the property is also accessible to city adventures, Ganondagan (one of the coolest museums in Upstate NY), lovely wineries, and the winter wonderland Bristol Mountain Ski Resort!
2. Whiteface Lodge ★

We love the Whiteface Lodge and the picturesque mountains surrounding this popular Adirondack escape. This resort is decked out in Great Camp decor, with towering beams, handcrafted furnishings, and cast iron fireplaces. Only a short drive from Whiteface Mountain, guests have quick access to winter skiing, snowshoeing, and snowboarding and summer access to gondola rides, hikes, and sightseeing. If you don’t want to leave the lodge, book some treatments at the in-house spa in Savannah, sit outdoors at the fire pits, or hang around the pool area.
3. Inns of Aurora Resort & Spa ★

Formerly a town that travelers might merely glimpse while journeying through the Finger Lakes region, Aurora, New York, has undergone a luxurious transformation. The catalyst for this change was Pleasant Rowland, the founder of the American Girl doll brand, whose college days at the local Wells College led her to later invest in the town’s revival. This rebirth has since catapulted Aurora to the forefront of upscale destinations in upstate New York, with a wealth of its buildings now proudly standing on the National Register of Historic Places.
One of her projects has been the Inns of Aurora Resort & Spa, a posh resort of lake houses along the shores of Cayuga Lake. It’s frequently rated the best resort in New York State, offering a spa and suites equipped with fireplaces, balconies, sitting rooms, and whirlpool tubs. The restaurant creates upscale American entrees and has a terrace to enjoy the surrounding lake views.
Outdoor enthusiasts will love Aurora’s remote location and lakeside fire pits, private hiking trails, canoes, bikes, lawn games, and access to the golf course at Wells College.
Aurora whispers quiet luxury with its lavish lakeside estates overlooking Cayuga Lake, one of the most popular lakes to visit in the Finger Lakes.
